In one line each: Lovable is the most polished chat-to-app experience and the category default. Bolt gets something on screen fastest and is happiest in slightly technical hands. These differences are real, and if you are choosing between them, they matter: pick by how technical you are and what you are building. For consumer products and MVPs, any of them can be the right answer, and we would genuinely point you at them.

The similarity that matters more

Now look at what did not vary. Every row ends the same way: you receive an application, and the responsibility for it.

Whatever the build method - single model, browser IDE, agent team - the structure of your app ends up in the same place: generated code, plus the chat history that produced it. Nothing enforces that structure. A change request is a new AI generation against that code, which is why every builder community shares the same complaints in nearly the same words: it changed things I did not ask about, it forgot decisions from last week, I am spending credits fixing what the AI broke.

And whoever hosts it, nobody on the list maintains it. Hosting keeps the server up. Maintenance is the other thing: catching the workflow that silently stopped, applying the patch, surviving the API change, keeping the app changeable as your business evolves. That column - who keeps it correct - reads "you" all the way down.

This is not a flaw the builders are hiding. It is the deal their users chose: maximum breadth and code you own, in exchange for owning the aftermath. For developers and for products you plan to hire developers for, it is often the right deal.

How to actually choose

Building a consumer product or MVP? Lovable or Emergent if you are non-technical, Bolt or Replit if you can read code. Plan for the handoff: the version one these tools produce is a validated idea, and the growth path usually runs through a developer taking over the code.

Slightly technical and want to stay hands-on? Replit is the most honest choice - it does not pretend you will never see code, and its environment rewards learning.

Building an internal business system - a CRM, portal, approval flow - that has to still be correct in a year? This is the case the table does not serve, and the one we built for. They compete on how good version one is. They do not compete on what happens after.

Are AI-generated apps production-ready?

Version one often genuinely is - it runs, users can use it, the demo is honest. The production question that matters is different: is it production-maintainable? Can you change it safely in month six, does anything tell you when a workflow silently fails, and does it stay correct as your business changes?
